ELCOGAS carries out IGCC technology consulting studies for external companies. These are the most revelant:
ELCOGAS has worked with the company GreenGen of China since 2007 in order to provide consulting services related with the management of the design, engineering and construction of an IGCC power station. In addition, ELCOGAS agreed to give GreenGen personnel training at its Puertollano IGCC power station. Finally, the two companies have agreed to keep a permanent communications channel open to carry out joint studies of IGCC power stations design and operation. This cooperation is financed by the Asian Development Bank.
In 2005, for the company GASATACAMA of Chile, ELCOGAS carried out a preliminary study about the possibility of converting an existing natural gas combined cycle power station into an IGCC power plant using coal or other alternative fuels to natural gas.
ELCOGAS has signed a cooperation agreement with the Korean Electric Power Research Institute (KEPRI). KEPRI is working with Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) on the 300 MW IGCC project at the Taean thermal power station in South Korea. This plant uses Shell's gasification process, similar to that used in ELCOGAS power station. In this case, our company's job is to provide consulting and technical support. The 300 MW IGCC is currently in the detailed design stage, erection is planned to begin in November 2011, commissioning in 2014 and closeout in 2015.
