Commissioning

During the commissioning, many activities were carried out in order to prepare the plant for  correct operation. Besides ELCOGAS, other companies like Air Liquide Paris, Black & Veatch, Electricidade de Portugal (EDP), Krupp Uhde/Babcock Wilcox Española, Siemens/Babcock Wilcox Española, and Siemens Disel Sainco were involved in this phase.

Experience in this field is summarized as follows:

• Management of interfaces between the collaborating engineering companies and equipment/technology suppliers: minimization of the impact caused by overlap between the Preparation, Construction and Commissioning activities.
• Construction by stages requiring two marketing operations.
• Methods to compensate for lack of experience in the design, construction and implementation of gasification processes.
• Adapting the progress plan from a design company to an operating power plant as part of the Project Execution.
• Demonstration of equipment scale-up in different systems: fuel preparation and feeding system, gasifier, quench gas compressor, etc.
• Procedures for efficient and economic management of interfaces (air, oxygen, coal gas, nitrogen, etc.), especially during commissioning.
